Many sustainable fashion companies can learn a lot about how PrAna Sustainable Fashion is helping to change the face of fashion, by distributing through Amazon. I recently got a prime membership for my student email that I still haven’t used for the past couple years and thought I would look into some affordable sustainable fashion on Amazon.
It’s relatively difficult to find sustainable clothing companies online, let alone on Amazon. I can attest that if a company is far enough along that they can distribute their clothing through a massive distribution house like Amazon, they have their act together. The companies that have their act together, usually supply the most reliable clothing. Though, it’s rare to find a reliable company that also sells sustainable fashion. Just check out this massive list.
But either way, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite garments from PrAna’s collection, and how they can each fit into a sustainable capsule wardrobe:
Background of PrAna Sustainable Fashion
Before diving into some of these really cute designs, I wanted to check out my list of sustainable fashion companies, their practices, and what the materials are made from. PrAna earns a sustainability score of 7, and solid 7’s across the board for eco, ethical and economic scales. Their big deal is in using fair trade certified organic cotton and hemp. On the sustainability scale, a company must earn at least a 7/10 in order to be considered sustainable. This company leans more towards the eco-friendly – ethical side of the sustainability spectrum than the affordable side. Nonetheless, it is a solid company. The following tops are my favorite out of their Amazon collection. However, they clearly have more products on their own website at prana.com.
The first top is the Women’s Ginger Top, which I’m looking forward to wearing in the winter. It’s made out of 100% organic cotton, and the neck line looks very cozy:
The second top design is the Women’s Cedric Sweater. Also made out of organic fabric, I’m kind of a little excited about sweaters right now. This one seems really comfy, plus it goes with just about everything.
All in all, you need about 2-3 pairs of pants. Investing in a good pair of pants that go with multiple outfits is always an essential. If you’re looking to replace or invest in a new quality pair of pants, check out the Brenna and Jada designs from Prana. They’re pretty solid and pretty comfortable.
The Brenna pant looks pretty nice. A decent pair of Khakis always goes with virtually everything. One place I worked, required khaki colored pants as part of the uniform, and I didn’t have any at the time. I wish I would have been able to see this design at the time.
The Jada Jean is a good option if you are in the market for a new pair of jeans. I like that there are pleats since it gives the pair a more polished look. It’s also made from 100% cotton which is really good for your skin as well as the environment.
The dresses are something I like to add to my closet because they go with virtually everything. If you had a dress that goes with everything, you don’t have to buy more than what you need. Buying only what you need is a much more sustainable option.
I’m a fan of sleeveless dresses that go with everything. It’s really nice in the summer when you don’t want any tan lines, but goes great with a good cardigan or an under shirt when it gets colder out. The Amelie dress is made with 100% Organic Cotton.
Now, this is more of a sweater tunic than a dress, but I think it goes with both. Great for colder weather with a pair of leggings and boots. The sleeves are extra long, so they are great for snuggling. Overall, I think it’s a pretty solid dress, but it comes with a bunch of different colors.
Out of all the Prana Sustainable fashion, I think that these 6 pieces are pretty essential, and the best out of their collection.
You can check out the full sustainability report, and download a list of over 400 sustainable fashion companies for free. I want to make the industry a lot more transparent, and believe we can do that with a set of standards designed to utilize the best that sustainable fashion has to offer. Prana Sustainable fashion, is one of many.
